Every little helps??

I’ve just been for a walk, only a short one mind, into town and back. (I say walk, please read – was driven to town by the wife, kids in tow and walked as little as possible) On this merry little jaunt down my local high street I happened upon the store GAME (read “happened upon” as walked to it as if called by a homing beacon) Deciding to have a browse, as I’m interested in the PSPgo, I looked around the shelves and walked out as aimlessly as I walked in.

One thing that DID catch my eye was the £40 price tag on FIFA10.

Now before I had left for this trip I had seen our friends Frugal Gaming advertise that supermarket Tesco were selling the same game for only £25, pittance compared to GAME, GameStation and BlockBuster. Now, I’m not a huge fan of football games, don’t mind the odd go but I wouldn’t line up to buy a FIFA game. But my best friend is, he quite literally eats, sleeps and breathes Football. As a manager of a Football team, a player, watcher and supporter, he was in line this morning to buy FIFA10 from his local GAME store. £40 changed hands and he was happy, until, I told him about Tesco’s price point.

Obviously pretty livid that he’d paid £15 more than it’s on the shelf for in supermarkets, it brought up the discussion of whether he felt comfortable with the fact that he’d given GAME his money over the giants, Tesco. On one had you have the dirty underhand “pre-owned” selling of GAME, on the other, the shop that pushes prices down so hard that local stores are closing their doors forever, and not by choice.

I don’t consider myself a fan of either shop, but in this situation, as a gamer, and one with not a great deal of readies burning a hole in my pocket, which comes first integrity or frugalness (is that a word? It is now!) I don’t want to see little stores going out of business at all, hell, I don’t even want to see GAME go out of business (as if) but it’s quite clear that if Tesco are going to push the price points down this much, other stores simply won’t cope. But then, it IS £15 cheaper than anywhere selling for the RRP and gamers don’t have much money, especially in this time of “war Economy” (Read – Recession)

Eurogamer have run a piece on this today too, it’s no wonder that so many shopkeepers are getting irate at this situation. Walk down any high street in the UK, christ anywhere in the world and shops are shutting because of the Tesco’s, ASDA’s, Wal-Mart’s and Best Buy’s. I try to buy from the little shops, unless they are charging OVER the RRP, but I know that in these tough financial times, consumers are looking to save a penny wherever they can.

Where do you stand as a gamer and consumer? Do you buy from the big boys at a lower cost and stuff the shopkeep, or pay more to keep the little guy alive?

One consumer has already made up their mind (Found on the interwebz)…………….

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Footage

Infinity Ward have finally released an un edited video of the much anticipated Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer. Its pretty special…

Im not sure if they were playing competitive game as it looked a little too easy. Even if it was a little staged it was still very impressive. As much as the throwing knives made me grin the real promising feature looks to be the host migration. If this works then it will improve the MP so much. So many times have I been having the game of my life to have the connection die, or thats my excuse anyway.

There is much more to talk about in this video and even more which I have not even noticed. Cant wait to see an in depth analysis video from some of the real Call of Duty faboys.

Stay frosty and bring on November 10.

Just Cause 2

Ok, I’m going back on my word from earlier – but only slightly, I thought I’d bring you some game news. I hated the original Just Cause, I don’t know why, it just never clicked. It all felt a bit stale and rushed, trying to capitalise on the fact that there was no GTA at that time. However this sequel has me intrigued and also, a little excited.

The island this time around looks more detailed, buildings and environments look like they have character. The graphics still look slightly stilted tech wise but otherwise it’s a lovely looking game. But what REALLY intrigues me is the destruction. For all of it’s issues I really enjoyed Mercenaries 2, it was great to just run around blowing everything you saw to pieces. There’s a moment in this trailer where Rico attaches a jeep to the bottom of a helicopter and drops it into a petrol station blowing it to kingdom come. This opens a lot of possibilities and if it can all be pulled off, then this could be a winner.

Dead Nation – PSN

We tend to steer clear of any announcements on new games or ‘slim’ consoles. Just let the others get one with it and we’ll pick out the best from the rest to talk about. So while I watched the SONY press conference, I say watched – read read a live blog, I was waiting for information on new games. I don’t need a slim PS3, I already have a phat one. I was watching, Reading, for news on PSN titles.

I’ve always thought that the original games on PSN wipe the floor with XBLA (until this summer when XBLA knocked out some great games) So I was eager to see what we might be getting. Then I read the words Dead Nation and that it looked like a twin stick shooter with Zombies. Big deal, I said, we already have Burn Zombie Burn, but I still waited until the conference ended and searched for any videos I could find. I love me some Zeds.

How Effin’ amazing does that look?! Superb graphics, Left4Dead style visuals right down to a “boomer like” character, atmospheric lighting and shooting from twin sticks? Yes please!

When I first bought Burn Zombie Burn I was hoping for a twin stick shooter, but it was a mix between twin sticks and button controls. While still a great game the controls were lacklustre, Dead Nation looks to fix that whilst bringing with a more mature art style and theme. I for one seriously can’t wait for this game!

Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack Videos

If your anything like me then you have been devouring every little bit of information about the upcoming Halo 3 Mythic maps. Things have been rather quiet since Bungie showed us the first pictures in July. But now with ODST out soon there has been an increase in updates. I came across this little video on youtube showcasing alot of footage from different websites. Ignore some of the dodgy gameplay if you can and just have a look at these exciting new maps.

So? What do you think?

If you recognized the first map thats because its a remake of the ever popular Halo 2 map Midship. Should be a great little map to play FFA and Slayer. The map thats got me very excited is Longshore. The early screenshots showed some promise for a good big team map and this video proves me right.

I follow quite a few Bungie staff members on Twitter and one of their artists, enfu posted this..

I worked closely with Steve Cotton, Matt Bennier, & Lars Bakken on Longshore. It’s a bigger map than you think.

Hopefully all this news will have got your somwhere near as excited as me.

Guitar Hero 5

I’ll be the first to admit, I thought that the rhythm game genre would die on it’s button tapping arse after a few years. I’ll also admit I was wrong. I owned the very first Guitar hero on PS2 and I’ve played each one except ‘Rock the 80’s’ ever since. This includes Rock Band and it’s expansions.

After my recent playthrough of Guitar Hero Greatest Hits I have to admit I thought that, even though lacking in inspiration and flair it was enjoyable. So my excitement is steadily building for Guitar Hero 5. How lucky are we then that Activision has announced 85 tracks that are featured in the newest iteration in the franchise.
